1. Chor und Instrmental Choral
Ich elender Mensch, wer wird mich erlosen vom Leibe dieses Todes? (Romans 7:24)

Wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?）
2. Rezitativ Alto
O Schmerz, o Elend, so mich trifft,
Indem der Sunden Gift
Bei mir in Brust und Adern wutet:
Die Welt wird mir ein Siech- und Sterbehaus,
Der Leib mus seine Plagen
Bis zu dem Grabe mit sich tragen.
Allein die Seele fuhlet den starksten Gift,
Damit sie angestecket;
Drum, wenn der Schmerz den Leib des Todes trifft,
Wenn ihr der Kreuzkelch bitter schmecket,
So treibt er ihr ein brunstig Seufzen aus.
O pain, o misery, that seizes me,
since the poison of sin
rages in my breast and veins:
my world has become a house of plague and death, the body must carry its torments
with it even to the grave.
The soul, however, feels the strongest venom,
with which it is afflicted;
so that, when the pain strikes this body of death,
when it tastes the bitter chalice of suffering,
a burning sob is driven forth.

Solls ja so sein,
Das Straf und Pein
Auf Sunde folgen mussen,
So fahr hie fort
Und schone dort
Und las mich hie wohl busen.
If it must be indeed,
that punishment and pain
must follow after sin,
so journey ahead
and spare thenceforth
and let me well atone here.
4. Arie Alto
Ach, lege das Sodom der sundlichen Glieder,
Wofern es dein Wille, zerstoret darnieder!
Nur schone der Seele und mache sie rein,
Um vor dir ein heiliges Zion zu sein.
Ah, lay the Sodom of sinful limbs,
as it be Your will, down destroyed!
Only spare the soul and make it pure,
so that it might be a holy Sion for You.
5. Rezitativ Tenor
Hier aber tut des Heilands Hand
Auch unter denen Toten Wunder.
Scheint deine Seele gleich erstorben,
Der Leib geschwacht und ganz verdorben,
Doch wird uns Jesu Kraft bekannt:
Er weis im geistlich Schwachen
Den Leib gesund, die Seele stark zu machen.
Yet here the Savior's hand
works wonders even among the dead.
Although your soul might appear already dead,
your body weakened and completely corrupted,
yet Jesus' power will become known to us:
He knows how, in the weak of spirit,
to make the body whole, the soul strong.
6. Arie Tenor
Vergibt mir Jesus meine Sunden,
So wird mir Leib und Seel gesund.
Er kann die Toten lebend machen
Und zeigt sich kraftig in den Schwachen,
Er halt den langst geschlosnen Bund,
Das wir im Glauben Hilfe finden.
If Jesus forgives my sins,
then my body and soul will be healed.
He can make the dead alive
and shows himself powerfully in the weak,
He upholds the long-sealed covenant,
so that we might find help in faith.
7. Choral
Herr Jesu Christ, einiger Trost,
Zu dir will ich mich wenden;
Mein Herzleid ist dir wohl bewust,
Du kannst und wirst es enden.
In deinen Willen seis gestellt,
Mach's, lieber Gott, wie dir's gefallt:
Dein bin und will ich bleiben.
Lord Jesus Christ, only comfort,
I will turn myself to You;
my heartache is well known to You,
You can and will bring it to an end.
Let it be placed in Your will,
do with it, dear God, as it pleases You:
Yours I am and want to remain.
