Enrico Dindo ( Turin , March 16, 1965 ) is an Italian cellist and conductor .

Biography

Born into a family of musicians, at six he began studying cello and graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory (Turin) .

At 22 he covered the role of first solo cello in the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, a role he will continue until 1998.

After the specialization activity with Antonio Janigro he began his solo activity thanks to the awarding, in 1997 , of the First Prize at the Mstislav Rostropovich Competition in Paris, he performed in many countries and with prestigious orchestras: BBC Philharmonic , Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra , Orchester national de France , Orchester du Capitole de Toulouse , Philharmonic of the Scala , Rai National Symphony Orchestra , Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia , St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra , NHK Symphony Orchestra , Orchestra Tokyo Symphony, Toronto Symphony Orchestra , Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Leipzig Gewandhausorchester .

The great directors with whom he worked include: Riccardo Chailly , Aldo Ceccato , Gianandrea Noseda , Myung-Whun Chung , Daniele Gatti , Yutaka Sado , Paavo Jarvj, Valery Gergiev , Yuri Temirkanov, Riccardo Muti and Rostropovich himself.

Some important authors have created music dedicated to him: Carlo Boccadoro (The Astrolabe of the sea, for cello and piano, Asa Nisi Masa, for cello, 2 horns and strings and Concerto for Cello and Orchestra), Giulio Castagnoli (Concerto for cello and double orchestra), Carlo Galante (Luna in Aquarius, for cello and 10 instruments) and Roberto Molinelli (Twin Legends, for cello and strings; Crystalligence, for solo cello; Iconogram, for cello and small orchestra).

In 2004 he played with the Filarmonica della Scala in a concert broadcast by Retequattro and Rest by Luca Francesconi (composer) with the RAI national symphony orchestra conducted by Roberto Abbado . In 2011 at La Scala he performed the Concerto for cello and orchestra (Schumann) with the Filarmonica della Scala and conducted the concert I Solisti di Pavia in concert. In 2012 he was appointed Academician of Santa Cecilia. In 2014 he performed the Suites for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory (Milan) .

He is musical director of the chamber ensemble "I Solisti di Pavia", born thanks to him in December 2001, and of the HRT Symphony Orchestra of Zagreb, teacher of the cello chair at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland in Lugano, the Pavia Cello Academy, the Tibor Varga Academy of Sion and the Garda Lake International Music Master summer courses.

The cello used by Dindo is a Pietro Giacomo Rogeri (ex Piatti) from 1717 of the Pro Canale Foundation.
