The shepherd on the rock ( D 965), for vocal part, clarinet and piano, is the penultimate composition of Franz Schubert , written in October / November 1828, after two poems by Wilhelm Muller and a poem by Karl August Varnhagen von Ense .
Performance
The premiere by the commissioner Milder, which received a copy of the setting by Schubert's brother Ferdinand in 1829, took place on 10 February 1830 in the Blackheads House in Riga . On March 21, premieres in Vienna (by Caroline Acht) and on December 14 in Berlin (by Milder-Hauptmann) joined.
