Mieneke van der Velden , born in 1962 in The Hague , is a Dutch virtuoso specialist in the French repertoire for the viola da gamba .
A noted Gambian of Northern Europe, she is a soloist in ensembles such as The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ton Koopman), the Vocal Concerto (Rene Jacobs), the Collegium Vocale (Philippe Herreweghe), the Talens Lyriques (Christophe Rousset) , the Nederlandse Bachvereniging ( Jos van Veldhoven), or Cantus Colln ( Konrad Junghanel ).
Her repertoire ranges from French music for viola da gamba - composers Marin Marais , Francois Couperin and Louis Couperin , notably 1 - to JS Bach's arias, as well as the transcription of certain cello suites, including English pieces of the 17th century and a contemporary repertoire relatively restricted by the force of things.
Mieneke van der Velden is professor of viola da gamba at the Amsterdam Conservatory 2 and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague , where she has founded a tradition of concerting with the recorder, lute and vocal classes.
