The soloist vocal ensemble Cantus Colln is now one of the most renowned formations of its kind in the world. At home in the tradition of the early Italian Renaissance Philharmonic as well as in the German High Baroque, the ensemble moves listeners worldwide with its sound ideal: Lightness of the "parlar cantando" and transparency in the vocal direction create space for the Characteristic nuanced and expressive Cantus Colln interpretations. Since the beginning of his artistic work, the ensemble has unanimously won the criticism with its extraordinarily homogeneous ensemble sound, coherent tempos and sovereign intonatory precision. The more than 35 CD recordings by Cantus Colln have been awarded numerous international prizes and include musical riaries as well as pioneering interpretations of "classics" of the baroque repertoire.

Founded in 1987 by Konrad Junghanel, the soloist vocal ensemble Cantus Colln established itself in international musical life in no time. Shortly afterwards, the renowned magazine Diapason certified the specialist in German and Italian vocal repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque, to be one of the greatest discoveries in the field of early music. In the course of his more than 25 years of development, Cantus Colln has found great acclaim with the audience with the revival of a largely forgotten repertoire, as well as presenting groundbreaking interpretations of numerous "standard works" of the baroque repertoire.

Homogeneity and balance

According to the criticism, Cantus Colln's sound ideal is characterised by the extraordinary balance between homogeneous ensemble sound and individual expression of the soloist voices. One of the principles in the musical work of Cantus Colln is decisive for this, according to which the cast, which remains as consistent as possible, finds an ever more harmonious harmony, a "blind" musical understanding. This attitude, of course for a string quartet of international character, is the basis for the standard of quality with which Cantus Colln preserves his artistic standards even in the fast-paced music market. For productions in a larger line-up, the core of the four soloists is reinforced by additional forces as required, whereby the same singers and instrumentalists are always included here as possible.

Repertoire and sound

The repertoire has expanded over the years from the program focus "Madrigal and Motette" of the early 17th century to the entire development of the spiritual concert and the cantata up to the High Baroque. Important criteria for selection always remain whether the piece of music in question is suitable for a solo performance mode, whether it gains more than it might lose on another side. This is not about the "only correct" way of performing, but about the realization of a sound deal that combines the greatest possible transparency with individual emotionality and sensual sound.

From Monteverdi Madrigaloper to Bach's H minor fair

Among the outstanding points in the artistic activity of the ensemble are the productions of the Marienvesper von Monteverdi and that of Johann Rosenmuller, which marked the beginning of a small international renaissance of this important "German-Italian" Composers ushered in. In addition, the productions of the motets, early cantatas and the h minor fair by Johann Sebastian Bach met with an enthusiastic international response. The Early Cantatas ? awarded several prestigious prizes ? belong to one of the most successful Bach cantatas recordings ever. Cantus Colln also acted successfully in the scenic area: The production "Combattimenti" with madrigals by Monteverdi was started in 1998 as a co-production of the National Travel Opera in Holland and the Touring Theatre Transparant in Belgium and stood due to its success. For three years on the schedules.

Awards

Most of the now more than 35 CD productions, which include a repertoire from Monteverdi's madrigals, the Marienvesper, Schutz's psalms of David to Bach's cantatas and motets, have been honoured with international prizes. In addition to numerous awards such as the Edison Awards Classical, the Diapason d 'Or, ffff du Telerama, 10 du Repertoire, the Choc du Monde de la Musique, the Grand Prix du Disque (Academie Charles Cros) and nominations for the Grammy and Grammophone Awards, among others, Cantus has received the Grammy and Grammophone awards.
