Julien Salemkour, born in 1969 as the son of a German mother and an Algerian father, his conducting studies began in 1987 in Hannover with Prof. Hans Herbert Joeris. in 1989, he continued his studies with Michael Gielen at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.


Julien Salemkour soon developed a large repertoire of operas as Repititor at various opera houses in Germany and as an Assistant to major conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanhnyi, Sir George Solti and Pierre Boulez.
Julien Salemkour gained his first conducting experience at the Opera in Leipzig with rediscovering "The hunt" by J. A. Hiller. In Dortmund, Julien Salemkour took over in 1995 "I Pagliacci". It was followed by engagements with j. Strauss "bat" and "A night in Venice", which Mr Salemkour brought for the first time in the restored original version performed.

Since then he has conducted performances of several operas, such as "Rigoletto", "Hansel and Gretel", "Three fountains" by Detlef Glanert (Mannheim), 'ZAR und Zimmermann"(Berlin),"A country doctor"by Hans Werner Henze,"Il Prigioniero"by L. Dallapiccola (Bielefeld),"Carmen","Der Freischutz"(Lucerne) etc.
Since 2001 Julien Salemkour is engaged as a conductor and Assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Berlin State Opera, where he and A. "The magic flute", "Don Giovanni", "Romeo and Juliet" by Prokofiev (new production), "Le Sacre you Printemps", "Giselle", "Il Barbiere di Sevilla", conducted "Der Ferne Klang" by F. Schreker, "The nose" by D. Shostakovich, and "Swan Lake".

As a pianist was Julien Salemkour with the Austrian Ensenble for new music at numerous world premieres and radio recordings in appearance, together with the violinist and conductor Oswald Sallaberger. With artists like the soprano Ruth Ziesak (Paris, Radio Classique, Stuttgart, SWR) and Christine Schaefer occurs as accompanist.
As a soloist Julien Salemkour distinguished himself with the world premiere of David Colemans "Fleuve" in 1997. In may Julien Salemkour was soloist and conductor with Mendelssohn's 1st Piano Concerto in Jena. There, he conducted a further premiere by David Coleman. In December 2003, he also appears as soloist and conductor with the German Chamber Orchestra in Berlin with Mozart's Piano Concerto 21 in c minor.
