The Swiss Youth Choir

(fr. Choeur Suisse des Jeunes, it. Coro Giovanile Svizzero, rht. Choir Svizzer dal Giuvanils) has been made up of talented and motivated young people from Switzerland since 1994. In doing so, he transcends language and cultural boundaries and works at a high semi-professional level.

History

The Swiss Youth Choir was founded in 1994. Since then, it has been under the patronage of the Swiss Choral Association (SCV) and the Swiss Federation of European Cantat (SFEC). The choir appears primarily in Switzerland as a national youth choir, but also regularly participates in festivals abroad or undertakes its own concert tours. In 2013, the Swiss Youth Choir successfully participated in the 13th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf (DE) and won the 2nd prize and the audience award.

In 2019, in addition to the a cappella concert choir that has existed since its foundation, a symphonic choir was founded under the umbrella organization of the Swiss Youth Choir, which is dedicated to the performance of orchestral works.

The Concert Choir

The concert choir of the Swiss Youth Choir consists of a fixed composition of about 45-50 singers from all regions of Switzerland. The singers are between 16 and 26 years old and are usually not music students. The concert choir rehearses at various locations in Switzerland and organizes concerts itself, but is also invited by various festivals and concert series.

The Symphonic Choir

The symphonic choir of the Swiss Youth Choir performs classical choral works with various orchestras. It consists of a pool of about 100 singers, who are recomposed depending on the project. The Symphonic Choir is open to motivated singers aged 16?30. As Choir in Residence at the Bach Weeks in Thun, it focuses on Bach's musical oeuvre.

Repertoire

The Concert Choir of the Swiss Youth Choir cultivates a cappella repertoire from several centuries. A major focus is on the repertoire of Swiss musicians. In addition to classical choral music, folk songs in all four national languages are also an important part of the repertoire. In addition to Swiss choral literature, choral works from nearby countries as well as selected popular literature are also included.

The Symphonic Choir focuses on symphonic choral parts and has worked with various orchestras since its founding in 2019.

Lead

The Swiss Youth Choir has been under the artistic direction of Nicolas Fink since 2018. He is supported by two assistants from the ranks of the choir, who are themselves studying choral conducting.

The Swiss Youth Choir Association has its headquarters and office in Aarau and an honorary board of directors.
