Julian Steckel (* 1982 in Pirmasens ) is a German musician and university teacher of cello .

Life

Julian Steckel was born in 1982 in Pirmasens, the son of piano teacher Vilja Steckel and violin teacher and conductor Helfried Steckel. He graduated from the classical language Immanuel Kant high school graduation. At the age of five, Steckel began learning cello with Ulrich Voss in Saarbrucken . Later he studied with Gustav Rivinius (Saarbrucken), Boris Pergamenschikow in Berlin, Heinrich Schiff in Vienna and Antje Weithaas (Berlin). After honoring the music competition " Jugend musiziert ", he was awarded a prize in 2003 at the German Music Council's Federal Music Competition. In 2010, he then won the ARD music competition .

In 2012 he received the Echo Klassik in the category of young artists (cello) with his album Korngold, Bloch, Goldschmidt: Cello Concertos , published by Cavi-Music.

Steckel was a professor of violoncello at the University of Music and Theater Rostock from 2011 to 2017. Since October 2017, he works in the same position at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
